Free Scenery for Oshkosh AirVenture

We have a special X-Plane 10 scenery package for the Oshkosh Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH), enhanced with buildings, custom objects, and aircraft, all designed around the annual AirVenture Expo. Each year sees thousands of fly-in aircraft, campers, and visitors to this huge aviation event sponsored by the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). This year’s event is taking place this week, from July 20 to 26.

The scenery was created by X-Plane scenery contributor Jan Vogel and is now available for free download on both X-Plane 10 Steam (automatically through your Steam client) and here on the X-Plane website. Get your copy now and take part in the fun in X-Plane!

The Boeing 737 created by EADT as part of the x737 Project is one of the most popular freeware aircraft available for X-Plane, if not the most popular. After spending some time with the aircraft, it isn’t hard to see why: the finely tuned flight model, realistic systems modeling, great flight manuals, and a mass of additional liveries make it a fantastic add-on for any sim user.

Robin DR400

The Robin DR400-140B is a light, general aviation aircraft of French design that’s used around the world due to its easy handling characteristics. It is immediately identifiable thanks to the unique dihedral (upward curve) of its wings. In real life, it’s flown with a stick rather than a yoke, so for the most realistic experience, break out your joystick!

Gee Bee Model R

This week’s Featured Freeware is the Gee Bee Model R, an aircraft from the early days of competition air racing. It’s a challenge to fly, but it’s loads of fun. Imagine being a pilot racing these in 1932!

Tips on flying the Gee Bee from the model’s creators at VSKYLABS:

If the engine quits on idle (on the ground) – hit the starter button and apply some throttle.
Release brakes before running to prevent a nose-over.
Set the aileron trim one notch to the right.
On take off – add some right aileron input to counter torque roll on take off run.
Push the stick forward and “fly” the airplane tail-up for best runway orientation.
Wait for at least 70 Knots before taking it to the air – It stalls aggressively.
Let it gain airspeed before maneuvering.
Make round and wide maneuvers. High speed stalls are wild.
Make room for landing-slow down. Final at 90 Knots, Touchdown at 70 Knots and below. Avoid stall on flare.
Do not rush to lower the tail.

ICON A5 Amphibious Airplane

The Icon A5 is an amphibious sport aircraft that features a 100 hp engine driving a pusher propeller. Though the airplane is not yet in production, it has generated considerable publicity at airshows like Oshkosh.

To perform a water takeoff in X-Plane, first select this aircraft as usual. Then, open the Aircraft menu and click on Aircraft & Situations. In the dialog box that appears, click the Waterway Takeoff button.

South Pacific Society Islands Scenery
