Mobile’s Massive Multiplayer Released

The latest update for X-Plane Mobile is rolling out today! This releases the new massive multiplayer online (MMO) system to everyone, and users with a subscription can start using it immediately. The new MMO completely revamps how multiplayer works in X-Plane, and we now have:

A single shared world: Fly with anyone in the world! It no longer matters if your friends are on iOS or Android, or if they live down the street or across the globe.
Fly-In of the Day: We feature a different, popular airport each day and prompt everyone to go there to ensure you always have people to fly with! (And if you just want to “plane spot,” which our head MMO dev says “turns out to be surprisingly fun!”, you can always start up at a gate and go to an external camera.)

MMO is early access, and we’re going to be iterating as fast as possible on it going forward. We’d love to know what you want to see most, so let us know by taking our poll!

X-Plane 11 Landmarks: Chicago, USA

X-Plane 11.25 adds another set of world landmarks for Chicago, IL, USA. Featured buildings include Chase Tower, Willis (Sears) Tower, and Exelon Center. Bypass the crowds to view iconic art such as the Four Season mosaic and Cloud Gate (perhaps better known by its nickname “The Bean”) up close & personal.

KLAS Additions in X-Plane 11.25

In honor of FlightSimExpo in Las Vegas, X-Plane 11.25b1 was released on June 9 and includes improved scenery at KLAS Mc Carran International Airport. New landmarks have been added to enhance and complete the Las Vegas Strip, including Trump Tower, Circus Circus, Wynn & Encore.

World’s Busiest Airports in X-Plane 11.20

X-Plane 11.20 includes an update to default airport scenery that includes 3D scenery for 30 of the busiest airports in the world. These airports have the most total aircraft movements, which is a landing or a takeoff of an aircraft. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (KATL) leads the pack, with Beijing Capital International (ZBAA) in the top five, and Charles de Gaulle (LFPG) in the top 10. X-Plane 11.20 included over 1000 airports with new 3d scenery, including 8 of the top international airports in China. China is projected to become the world’s largest aviation market in the next five years, and these airports will be an important part.

Continuing our commitment to making the X-Plane world living, breathing, and believable, X-Plane 11.20 includes even more options for customizing airports.

Multiple types of brand new facades allow scenery artists to customize the shape, length and appearance of airport jetways. Learn more about how to customize jetways in WED in this scenery developer article.

The Terminal Kit got additional variants as well. There are now between four and five variants for the various parts that can make up a terminal. Check out all the possibilities and instructions on how to use the kit in this article.

X-Plane 11.20 adds another set of world landmarks for Sydney, Australia. Don’t miss the iconic Sydney Opera House, which boasts over 8 million visitors a year and status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or the nearby Harbour Bridge, also nicknamed “The Coathangar.”

New Aircraft in X-Plane 11.20: Aerolite 103

X-Plane 11.20 includes a new aircraft: the Aerolite 103. This is a single seat, high-wing, pusher configuration ultralight aircraft that provides an unparalleled view of your surroundings when used in VR. It has an empty weight of 275 pounds, a maximum speed of 70 miles per hour, and range of 120 statute miles. The real Aerolite is sold as an assembly kit aircraft, but you can save yourself hours of effort with the fully assembled version shipping with X-Plane 11.20.

X-Plane 11.10 Includes G1000 GPS

As part of the free update, X-Plane 11.10 will include a highly functional G1000. This GPS was designed and programmed by a certified flight instructor to include all the key features and pages needed in training. And it comes equipped in a new version of the Cessna 172 by default, as well as the Cirrus SF-50.

The G1000 is compatible with third party nav data, and includes full vector graphics. It will be available for third party aircraft developers to use in a 2d or 3d panel, and is customizable for different aircraft types. Home cockpit builders can use it as a stand alone window without bezels, but it can also be enabled as a pop up window on an additional monitor.

Landmarks in X-Plane 11: London

Laminar Research is working to fill the X-Plane world with the global landmarks you know and love. X-Plane 11.10 will feature new custom objects for many iconic buildings in London, England. As a passenger or a pilot, watch for sights such as the Eye, the Gherkin, Tower Bridge, and Westminster Palace.
