If you are unhappy with the frame rate or performance of running X-Plane 11 in VR, there are two recommended solutions.

Turn Down Rendering Settings

First we recommend trying lower rendering settings in the Settings > Graphics tab. This video will walk you through the recommended process for tuning your rendering settings. You can also check out this section of the manual for the text version of the same process.

Upgrade Hardware

If you’ve turned down your rendering settings as low as they can go and you are still unhappy with performance, at this point the only solution is to invest in higher quality hardware for your computer. Laminar Research recommends these minimum system requirements to use VR:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5 6600K at 3.5 ghz or faster
  • Memory: 16-24 GB RAM or more
  • Video Card: a DirectX 12-capable video card from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel with at least 4 GB VRAM (GeForce GTX 1070 or better or similar from AMD)

Some VR hardware manufacturer’s system requirements may be even higher than these. Please follow the higher of the two requirements guidelines for best performance.
